Governance
At ASAFA, our governance is rooted in transparency, accountability, and sustainability. We are committed to fostering a culture of responsible leadership that aligns with global standards in aviation sustainability. Our principles are centered on promoting the development and use of SAF, ensuring environmental stewardship, and advancing innovation. We aim to set industry benchmarks while maintaining ethical practices and prioritizing long-term value for all stakeholders.
Guiding Principles
01
Sustainability: We are dedicated to fostering a sustainable aviation industry by promoting the use of sustainable aviation fuel. Our actions and initiatives are guided by the principles of environmental stewardship, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and protect natural resources.
02
Innovation: We value and promote innovation in SAF production and deployment. We support the development of new technologies and methods that enhance the efficiency, scalability, and sustainability of SAF, driving the industry forward.
03
Collaboration: We believe in the power of collaboration and partnership. By working together with diverse stakeholders, including governments, industry leaders, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations, we can achieve greater impact and accelerate the adoption of SAF across Asia.
04
Integrity: We uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethics in all our activities. Transparency, honesty, and accountability are the cornerstones of our interactions with members, partners, and the broader community.
05
Inclusivity: We are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment that welcomes and respects diverse perspectives and contributions. We strive to ensure broad representation across the SAF value chain, promoting equitable participation and opportunities for all stakeholders.
Organizational Structure
Board of Directors: The Board is responsible for guiding the strategic direction of ASAFA. It consists of representatives from diverse sectors, including SAF producers, airlines, research institutions, and regulatory bodies, ensuring all key stakeholders are involved in decision-making.
Advisory Council: This council provides expert advice and strategic input to the Board and executive leadership, focusing on policy advocacy, industry collaboration, and knowledge-sharing to drive innovation and growth.
Leadership Team: The team includes the CEO, who oversees operations and long-term goals; the Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), responsible for sustainability initiatives; the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), who leads technical development; and the Director of Governance, who ensures compliance with ethical standards and regulatory frameworks.
Funding
ASAFA is structured as a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG), a type of organization that does not have shareholders but instead has members who act as guarantors. This means that members' liability is limited to a predetermined amount, usually a nominal fee, in the event of the company's dissolution.

This structure promotes a not-for-profit approach, allowing ASAFA to focus on its mission of advancing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) without the pressure to generate profits for shareholders. Members contribute to governance and decision-making, ensuring that diverse stakeholder interests are represented. This model fosters collaboration and supports ASAFA’s goals of driving innovation and policy development in the SAF sector.

ASAFA is funded through a combination of membership contributions, event revenues, and direct sponsorships for working groups. Memberships are structured across different tiers, allowing organizations to choose a level that reflects their capacity and interests, each offering distinct benefits for engagement.

Events such as conferences, workshops, and seminars generate additional funds through registration fees and sponsorships, serving as vital platforms for knowledge exchange and networking among stakeholders.

Additionally, specific working groups and projects can receive targeted funding through direct sponsorships, enabling companies to support particular aspects of SAF development and implementation. This multi-faceted funding model ensures financial sustainability and allows ASAFA to focus on critical areas, driving technical advancements and influencing policy development effectively.
