Dr. Dietmar POSSELT, President of Aviation Fuel Projects Consulting GmbH & Co. KG, has been honored with the IASH Lifetime Achievement Award at the 18th International Conference held in Louisville, Kentucky, in 2024. This prestigious award recognizes his significant scientific and technical contributions in fuel and additive chemistry and engineering, as well as his role in the transition of technologies for in-field use.
The IASH Lifetime Achievement Award celebrates sustained technical contributions to fuel stability and handling, acknowledging the important advancements Dietmar has made in understanding the operational and scientific factors that influence the stability and handling of liquid fuels throughout their lifecycle, including manufacture, blending, transportation, storage, and usage.
This award is not given for a single achievement but rather for ongoing excellence and impact over time. Nominees for this honor must be well-regarded among their peers for their contributions to the field, with endorsements from fellow members highlighting their qualifications. Dietmar’s recognition reflects a career dedicated to enhancing the aviation fuel sector and advancing sustainable practices within the industry.
His expertise is highlighted by leading the “DEMO-SPK” project (2018-2019), which demonstrated the feasibility of using renewable jet fuel at Leipzig/Halle Airport. This project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure, produced and evaluated over 600 tons of SAF blend. Additionally, Dr. Posselt spearheads the “PowerFuel” project since 2018, investigating the production of aviation kerosene via the Fischer-Tropsch process, supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
Dr. Posselt's roles in prominent organizations such as ASTM International, CRC, and IATA’s Technical Fuel Group underscore his influence on SAF developments and certifications globally. His consultancy, Aviation Fuel Projects Consulting, founded in 2016, provides strategic insights and support to the industry. As an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich, he has also developed an educational seminar series on fuels.
Between 2020 and 2022, Dr. Posselt organized SAF workshops in collaboration with the German Government and industry players, and assisted companies with ASTM approval processes. His contributions to the German “ITEAL” project further underscore his commitment to advancing SAF production, exploring decentralized solutions for mid-size airports. His frequent participation as a speaker and panelist at international SAF conferences further cements his standing as a thought leader in the field.
Dr. Dietmar Posselt holds a Doctorate in Inorganic Chemistry from RWTH Aachen, Germany.
