On 23 September 2026, ASAFA co-organised “SAF Certificates: A Practical Introduction” with the Business Environment Council (BEC), in partnership with the Hong Kong SAF Coalition (HKSAFC). BEC hosted the session at its auditorium in Kowloon Tong.

Over 70 people joined the half-day workshop, from corporate sustainability, procurement, finance and aviation. The aim was a grounded look at how SAF certificates (SAFc) can support aviation decarbonisation and corporate Scope 3 strategies.

We started with the fundamentals: international SAFc frameworks, registries and book-and-claim mechanisms. From there we moved to how SAFc fits into GHG accounting, target-setting and corporate climate claims, and to the investment case. Speakers from Rocky Mountain Institute, Airbus, PwC, 1PointFive, SkyNRG, Cathay Pacific and the Hong Kong Investment Corporation shared frameworks, case studies and lessons learned. Cathay Pacific gave the corporate buyer’s view. The pain points that came up were registry fragmentation, additionality, pricing transparency and internal approval.

The workshop marks the start of a partnership between ASAFA and BEC to accelerate SAF development in Hong Kong and Asia-Pacific, strengthen regional ties and build Hong Kong’s leadership in this space.
