Singapore, 29 January 2026 – The Asian Sustainable Aviation Fuel Association (ASAFA) is pleased to welcome Apical Group, a leading vegetable oil processor and sustainable feedstock supplier, as its newest member.

Apical brings extensive expertise in sustainable feedstock sourcing and renewable fuel value chains to ASAFA's mission of accelerating sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) adoption across the Asia-Pacific region. The company is pioneering second-generation biofuels production through its joint venture with Moeve (formerly Cepsa), constructing the largest second-generation biorefinery in Southern Spain. This facility, with an annual capacity of up to 500,000 tonnes of SAF and renewable diesel and scheduled to commence production by the end of this year, demonstrates Apical's commitment to supporting the aviation industry's decarbonization goals and broader regional net-zero strategies.

“We are excited to have Apical join ASAFA as a member” said Fabrice Espinosa, Founder & CEO of ASAFA. “Apical’s global presence, integrated supply chain capabilities and proven track record in sustainable feedstock sourcing position them as a key contributor in addressing one of the industry's most critical challenges — securing stable, high-quality, traceable second-generation feedstock at scale. We are confident this partnership will help build the robust SAF supply chain infrastructure that Asia-Pacific needs to become an SAF hub.”

“The SAF industry will only be able to grow at scale if sustainable and reliable feedstock supply, installed processing capacity, and mandated demand move in step,” said Lamberto Gaggiotti, Apical’s Head of Green Energy. “Through ASAFA, we aim to contribute practical expertise in developing consistent, fully traceable, and sustainable second-generation feedstock value chains, supporting commercially viable SAF pathways for Asia-Pacific.”

Following the successful groundbreaking of its European facility in early 2024, Apical is actively exploring similar partnerships with global energy companies to establish additional SAF production facilities both in Europe and Asia-Pacific. These initiatives align with the growing demand for SAF across both regions. The company's strong regional presence, particularly in Indonesia and Malaysia — countries with significant potential for waste and residue oil feedstock — positions Apical uniquely to support the scaling of SAF adoption in an affordable manner that benefits both consumers and airlines.

Apical's participation in ASAFA aligns with the company's commitment to creating positive environmental, social, and business impact. Apical's SAF initiatives complement ongoing work across the region to promote clean energy, circular economy principles, and low-carbon mobility solutions.
