Singapore, 4 March 2026 – Asia Sustainable Aviation Fuel Association (ASAFA) is pleased to welcome Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd., a leading Japanese integrated energy company, as its newest gold member.
Idemitsu Kosan brings over a century of expertise in petroleum refining, petrochemical manufacturing, and energy distribution to ASAFA's mission of accelerating sustainable aviation fuel adoption across the Asia-Pacific region. The company is actively advancing its transformation toward carbon neutrality, with ambitious initiatives to establish domestic SAF supply and imports of up to 500,000 kiloliters per year by 2030. These efforts directly support the Japanese government and aviation industry's goal of replacing 10% of fuel consumption by Japanese airlines with SAF by the same year, reflecting Idemitsu's commitment to aviation decarbonization and regional sustainability.
Fabrice Espinosa, Founder & CEO of ASAFA, shared “We are delighted to have Idemitsu Kosan join ASAFA as a gold member. Their extensive experience in the energy sector and commitment to decarbonization efforts will be key to the growth of the SAF industry in Japan and in extension, to the region.”
Hiroshi Tanaka, Executive Officer and General Manager of Carbon Neutral Transformation Department, said, “We are pleased to join ASAFA as a member which aligns with Idemitsu Kosan’s 2050 vision of “Shaping Change”. SAF is one of the key pillars behind our plan to achieve a carbon-neutral society. We strongly believe this membership will allow close collaboration and more initiatives to support the industry.”
Idemitsu's participation in ASAFA aligns with the company's Vision for 2050, "Shaping Change," which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by transforming its refineries and complexes into carbon-neutral transformation centers. The company has committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions for its own operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 2050, with a medium-term plan of further greenhouse gas reduction by 2030. Idemitsu has designated SAF as one of four priority businesses for 2030, alongside blue ammonia, e-methanol, and lithium solid electrolytes.
